South Africa's most pristine wilderness beach lodge awaits you on the azure shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

There are 24 thatched en suite rooms, each with a private veranda and located on stilts above the dunes. Some rooms have sea views whilst others are set in the dune forest. All suites are private and luxury with an open/airy feel. Large glass sliding doors open onto the balcony.

Rooms have air-conditioning, separate shower & bath, twin vanity and finer touches to make your stay comfortable. Connected together by wooden walk ways to the main lodge area and the beach.

The main area offers and open cocktail bar, outside and inside dining in buffet 'island style' during the day and finer dining in the evening.

The swimming pool offers an alternative to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean with kilometers of white sandy beaches (privacy guaranteed!). There is a tanning deck over looking the ocean and a number of different access walkways to the beach.

Activities at Thonga Beach include snorkeling, scuba-diving, sunset drives to nearby Lake Sibiya, kayaking and during season turtle tracking (Nov - Feb) of the Leatherback & Loggerhead turtle. During the day you can unwind in the peaceful surroundings, take a stroll on the beach or sip cocktails at the bar.

The Mabibi coastline boasts the most southern coral reefs and is the only place in South Africa where you can enjoy a tropical dive, with over 1200 specials of colourful fish, dolphins, whale sharks and turtles. Thonga Beach has a resident dive instuctor and guests can choose from a range of comprehensive scuba dive courses.

Thonga Beach is a great place to unwind before or after a safari, with a relaxed atmosphere, yet with attention to detail and finer touches. Staff are friendly and the lodge is part of a community based project, so most of the persons working here are from the local villages.

Great for honeymooners and families alike. The layout of the lodge offers the opportunity for everyone to find a quiet place and with stretches of private beach where you will walk for kilometers and not see a soul.

Access to the lodge is by a 4x4 transfer due to the remote location or you can take a private charter flight to the lodge. We recommend a minimum of 3 nights here to be able to fully experience Thonga Beach.
