A countryside farmstay in the Kiulu Valley with cultural activities and home-cooked meals.
Accommodation is basic. Each bedroom is equipped with a ceiling fan and mosquito net. The open-air design of the building allows for a pleasant breeze and there are places to sit outside if you prefer. Additional sleeping arrangements can be made in tents and a second bathroom with a cold-water shower is located on the property.
Meals are included in a stay at The Fig Tree, all prepared and served by local residents. If you're lucky, you'll get to try a honey pineapple grown in the area. A guided walk to a nearby village and an opportunity to learn about traditional ways of life is provided to all guests. Learn how rubber is removed from trees, try your hand at separating rice from its husk using traditional tools, and perhaps play a few notes on a kulintangan - a gong-based musical instrument. In the evening, listen to tales of local legend.
Please be aware that reaching The Fig Tree requires walking across a suspension bridge high above a river. The area is somewhat remote and even a local phone signal is often difficult to receive.
***Fleewinter can only book a stay at The Fig Tree as part of a holiday package.***
