Rattray's on MalaMala offers a glimpse of a bygone era of the great African explorers, capturing the allure of Africa and the magic of the wild with a touch of elegance and refinement to make your safari experience ultra-comfortable and exclusive.

There are only 8 luxury suites, each with a private veranda offering great river views of the Sand River. Rooms are en suite with impressive his / hers bathrooms with ball & claw footed bath and double shower as well as an outside shower. The suites all have heated plunge pools and a private garden and there is an outdoor and in room dining option for extra romance. All suites have 24 hour temperature control as well as overhead fans, hairdryer, direct dial telephones, mini bar, room safe, tea/coffee making facilities and optional satellite television and laptop with wireless internet available and a DVD player.

The main camp area of Rattrays includes a well appointed library with rare African books and magnificent artworks. The dining room is air-conditioned with an African theme and the bar takes one back to a by-gone era showing photos of the early days of this unique area called Mala Mala. The large wooden deck overlooks the Sand River and is where meals are served in the day.

The large infinity pool also overlooks the river and often you can take a dip watching animals come to quench their thirst. There is a small fitness facility with a stationary bicycle, treadmill, multigym machine as well as free weights and a steam room. And for some extra pampering there is a massage service available.

The full stocked wine cellar offers a great selection of quality South African wines to accompany your meal.

Rattrays Camp is an intimate camp and only allows children over the age of 16 years and older, unless the camp is booked on an exclusive basis. Keeping to the theme of intimacy the policy on the game drive vehicles is only to have 4-5 persons per vehicle which certainly ensures a more intimate safari experience.

The main focus of your stay at MalaMala is on the game viewing experience and being in the prime location, directly bordering the Kruger National Park (no fences) this is exactly what you can expect to experience with 13 500 hectares of prime game viewing bush. Not only will you have a great opportunity to see the big five (lion, buffalo, leopard, rhino and elephant), but also a wide range of another animals from cheetah, variety of antelope, zebra, giraffe, amazing bird life and you could even to lucky to see some of the less seen animals like the shy civet, serval and even a honey badger. The Sands river is the lifeblood of the reserve and cuts down the middle with 23km of river and being a perennial river this is where animals frequent.

Access to Rattrays MalaMala is easy with either daily charter flights from Johannesburg or you can fly into Skukuza Airport which offers direct flights from either Cape Town or Johannesburg.
