Luxurious villas on Gaya Island, a short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu with jungle walks, snorkeling, and access to a private beach.

Situated on Pulau Gaya within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Gaya Island Resort is a natural sanctuary nestled in the hillside of an ancient rainforest. Discoveries, authentic experiences and a closeness with the natural world all prevail across the resort's land and seascape, offering travellers and families a distinctively Borneo escape.

The 120 hillside villas and 2-bedroom suite respect Sabahan elements and blend harmoniously with the natural environment while interiors are designed with a contemporary elegance. Bayu Villas are set on a hillside amidst lush rainforest with leafy views ranging from rainforest canopy to tropical mangroves. Canopy Villas are closer to the beach than Bayu Villas although a selection are close to the resort's main facilities. For stunning views, Kinabalu Villas are the best choice. It's a bit of a walk to reach these villas from the pool and beach but we love looking across the South China Sea toward Mount Kinabalu from the balcony. The luxurious 2-bedroom Suria Suite is spread across two floors. On the ground level are lounge and dining areas opening to an outdoor deck. One level up are two en-suite bedrooms with sweeping views from the balcony.

Feast Village serves a buffet with a variety of Asian and Western dishes that can be tailored to personal preferences. Fisherman's Cove offers a seafood-focused menu in the evenings in a romantic rooftop setting. Removed from the main building, Omakase focuses on a limited Japanese menu and reservations are recommended. The Pool Bar & Lounge is a delightful place to relax and enjoy a sundowner or afternoon nibbles. A full board option is available at Gaya Island Resort.

Integrated within the mangroves is Spa Village, offering spa programmes that reflect the region's ancient healing practices while restoring balance to alleviate modern stresses. Check the schedule when you arrive to see what's on offer in the way of yoga and wellness classes.

A variety of activities are scheduled weekly including guided nature walks, evening film screenings, and snorkeling. A small beach is located at the resort but to stretch out even more, hop over to Tavajun Bay for a day, the Resort's private beach complete with a casual restaurant serving a dish of the day for lunch.
