The Fordoun Hotel & Spa is a wonderful family run country hotel in the heart of the Natal Midlands offering guests a great base to explore this central region of the Drakensberg Mountains.
The rooms are divided into the following categories:
Luxury Suites: King-size bed, full bathroom and one is specially adapted to accommodate a wheel-chair. All rooms have balconies that are shared.
Deluxe Suites: Overlooking the rolling lawns and dam, rooms have king size bed, dressing room and private balcony.
Superior Mountain Suites: Newly added and set a short stroll (50 meters) from the main lodge - spacious with beautiful views of the Drakensberg, a gas fire, indoor & outdoor showers, private balcony with loungers and wireless internet.
Fordoun used to be a working dairy farm with history dating to the 1800's, which the family have now converted into a very stylish country hotel, utilising all the areas - the beautiful spa was once the diary area and the Silo is now a floatation room. There are individual treatment rooms as well as an indoor pool (heated) The restaurant with its cosy pub and fire-place serve as a central point and the meals are always fresh and from local produce. There is a lounge area to relax as well as another cigar area to relax after a meal.
Besides offering 5 star accommodation and a leading spa, the owners of Fordoun are also involved in a number of community projects from supporting a local primary school, to having incorporated a local Sangoma (traditional healer) who consults with clients and has developed a range of indigenous healing plant products. The owner is also setting up a breeding project of the endangered Black Wattle Crane.
Besides what the hotel offers, the Midlands offers so many things to do - from hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains, horse-riding, visiting Nottingham Road with its country shops with local arts and crafts, mountain biking to mention some of the things you can do.
Fordoun is ideal for families and couples and is easily included in a longer itinerary exploring the highlights of South Africa.
