Simple accommodation within a tropical rainforest where the odds of spotting a clouded leopard are better than anywhere else in Borneo.
Deramakot Forest Reserve is the first natural tropical rainforest in the world to be certified as “well-managed” by the Forest Stewardship Council. This 55,507-hectare forest is the longest certified rainforest in the world, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council since 1997.
A stay includes full board and a variety of safaris to look for wildlife. The reserve is home to an array of wildlife including Borneo pygmy elephants, orang utans, a variety of cats including the elusive clouded leopard, a wide array of monkeys, birds, insects, and more.
Deramakot can be reached overland from Kota Kinabalu with a 6.5 hour drive including 2.5 hours on bumpy gravel roads. From Sandakan, Deramakot can be reached in approximately 4-4.5 hours, including 2-2.5 hours on bumpy gravel roads. In either case, transport along the final stretch is by Four-Wheel-Drive vehicles.
Fleewinter can only book Deramakot as part of a Borneo holiday and not by itself.
