Bukela Game Lodge is a small and intimate, 5 star game lodge in the 6000 hectare, malaria free, Amakhala Game Reserve, just 75km from Port Elizabeth
The main lodge comprises of a reception area, dining and sitting area with a central fire-place, a media and library room with internet facilities, television, dvd player, games and books. The wooden pool deck overlooks a small waterhole frequented by buffalo and other animals on the reserve. The outside boma area offers guests 'under the African stars' bush "braai's" in the evenings, with a flair of traditional spoils.
A typical stay at Bukela includes all meals, two daily game activities and luxury accommodation. Game drives are usually between 3-4 hours, depending on sightings. Enjoy refreshments in the bush during your game drive to stretch the legs and quench your thirst (in a safe open area away from predators).
Returning from a morning game drive guests can relax before a scrumptious brunch and then either relax by the swimming pool, or take a cruise on the Bushmans River (optional extra).
Other activities from the lodge include historical and cultural sight-seeing, visit to the nearby beaches (20 minutes), golf (1 hour from lodge) or just relaxing and unwinding in tranquil bush surrounds.
The Amakhala game reserve is home to the Big Five; namely, white rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, lion and leopard. In addition to these 'prize sightings', guests can also expect to see cheetah, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, serval, a variety of 12 different antelope species and if lucky even the elusive aardwolf. There is also an abundance of birdlife (250 recorded species) including the African Fish Eagle, Crowned Eagle and Jackal Buzzard.
Bukela offers a lovely bush stay and big five experience for couples, honeymooners and families with children over 12 years old who are looking for personal service and a luxury stay.
Access is easy by either direct flights from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban to Port Elizabeth, or Bukela can be added onto the end of any Garden Route holiday.
