The largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa, the NamibRand Nature Reserve spans 215,000 hectares (530,000 acres) of this unspoiled desert wilderness.

The spectacular dunes at Sossusvlei, arrayed in magnificent hues of orange, buttermilk, pumpkin and sienna, tower over a vast, dry pan. Over 230 metres (750 feet) high and constantly twisted and shaped by the wind, these breathtaking dunes are among the highest in the world.

The 10 spacious stone and glass villas are located at the foot of a mountain, overlooking the grass plains with the red Sossusvlei dunes visible in the background. Guests can choose from either twin or double beds, with the option of a 3rd bed being added to one of the rooms. Lying on any of the beds, one can look up and have a view of the night sky through the skylight. The en-suite bathrooms come with an indoor and outdoor shower, and the toiletries provided go beyond simple necessities. The rooms each have a lounge featuring a fireplace and comfortable chairs. There are also two terraces - one furnished with a table and chairs and the other with sun loungers – both looking out over the desert. These rooms are designed with comfort in mind – with air conditioning, a well-stocked minibar, as well as dried fruits, nuts and fresh lemon all being available in each room.

The main area at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge includes a lounge and bar area with views over the desert. The main dining room can be found adjacent to this area, and is where meals are usually served – however, the very romantic wine cellar can also be used for private dinners. Above this is another lounge area with a terrace offering greater views over the desert. The lodge swimming pool has some of the most impressive views of the plains and mountains, as well as a popular waterhole.

Activities at the lodge include trips to Sossusvlei, as well as guided nature walks and scenic nature drives. Guests can embark on a walk to Bushman cave where they can see the ancient rock paintings. Those feeling a bit more adventure can do some quadbiking around the dunes (over 16’s only). The lodge also has its very own observatory, with a computer-controlled telescope available for guests to use. The reserve is designed as an international dark sky reserve and thus has very little light pollution, making for some of the best star gazing!

Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is the ideal accommodation option for couples who are looking to explore the Sossusvlei Dunes from a base of elegance and luxury. Speak to us about how to include a stay at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge into your Nambian safari holiday!
