White Truffle Festival Fun

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Alba

You’ll arrive this weekend at the medieval town of Alba, which is home to this famous truffle fair. This afternoon you will get acquainted with the town and its people. It is a good opportunity to have nosy around the fair and maybe stop for some wine tasting too! Perhaps go for dinner at one of the nearby Michelin-starred restaurants, to get your gastronomic break off to a delicious start. Your hotel is located near the town centre, making it a convenient base during the festival.

Day 2 - Work for those truffles!

An early start awaits you this morning, as you’ll be heading out to the hazelnut groves with your private guide and dedicated truffle-hunting dog. Be prepared to get foraging underneath the trees and leaves in search of this rare delicacy. This afternoon you’re free to explore the White Truffle Fair some more. Perhaps watch a cooking demonstration, or enjoy some of the local entertainment that this unique cultural experience has to offer its visitors. Or simply do as the locals do, and mill about with a glass of wine in hand…

Day 3 - Day at leisure

Today is at your leisure to enjoy the truffle festival under your own steam. Admire the fragrant treasures for sale, as you get lost in the heady aromas.  It is also a good opportunity to do a wine tour and tasting nearby. Alba has plenty to offer a first-time visitor, and the festival brings with it an exciting atmosphere. If you can, you should also visit the Medieval Festival, for a step back in time.

Day 4 - Cook with truffles

After a leisurely morning at your hotel, you will enjoy a seasonal cookery class under the supervision of a talented chef. Here you will learn how to use this special ingredient in a number of traditional dishes, before tucking into the fruits of your labour for lunch! The afternoon is free to explore Piedmont and the surrounding countryside as you wish. This evening, try one of our many recommended restaurants, to celebrate your final evening in this magical part of Italy!

Day 5 - Until we meet again...

After a few days of solid feasting, today you head back to reality. No doubt a few pounds heavier, but happier too. Make sure that you return with some truffle delights, so that you’re the envy of your peers. Goodbye, until next time!

Experience one of Italy’s most prized ingredients at the International White Truffle Festival (aka the Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba)!

The medieval town of Alba in Piedmont, hosts this month-long annual festival during the autumn (6th Oct – 25th Nov 2018) which takes place every weekend. Here, local truffle merchants congregate to have their ‘shrooms’ checked for quality before they are fit for sale, along with truffle butter, salt, and oil. You can also pick up other local delicacies such as roasted hazelnut cakes, cheese, and pasta.

This is the perfect trip for a keen foodie, or anyone who wants to get involved in an authentic Italian festival, with some incredible tasting opportunities along the way. In addition to the local truffle produce, there is plenty of wine-tasting on offer, where you can learn all about the perfect pairings for this rare and highly-sought after ingredient.

As well as the gorgeous food and wine, there is an array of medieval-themed activities to entertain the whole family. Including; carnival style games, donkey racing and truffle workshops. You’ll also find food stalls by award-winning chefs who flock together to celebrate the ‘Slow Food Movement’ which Piedmont is known for.

When you’re not busy exploring the truffle fair, you’ll be getting your hands dirty on a real life truffle-hunt (complete with truffle dog), and a private cooking class, so you can learn how best to enjoy this tasty ingredient in traditional dishes.
