Experience one of Italy’s most prized ingredients at the International White Truffle Festival (aka the Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba)!
The medieval town of Alba in Piedmont, hosts this month-long annual festival during the autumn (6th Oct – 25th Nov 2018) which takes place every weekend. Here, local truffle merchants congregate to have their ‘shrooms’ checked for quality before they are fit for sale, along with truffle butter, salt, and oil. You can also pick up other local delicacies such as roasted hazelnut cakes, cheese, and pasta.
This is the perfect trip for a keen foodie, or anyone who wants to get involved in an authentic Italian festival, with some incredible tasting opportunities along the way. In addition to the local truffle produce, there is plenty of wine-tasting on offer, where you can learn all about the perfect pairings for this rare and highly-sought after ingredient.
As well as the gorgeous food and wine, there is an array of medieval-themed activities to entertain the whole family. Including; carnival style games, donkey racing and truffle workshops. You’ll also find food stalls by award-winning chefs who flock together to celebrate the ‘Slow Food Movement’ which Piedmont is known for.
When you’re not busy exploring the truffle fair, you’ll be getting your hands dirty on a real life truffle-hunt (complete with truffle dog), and a private cooking class, so you can learn how best to enjoy this tasty ingredient in traditional dishes.
