Firstly the Baobabs and Boulders itinerary starts off with a 3-night stay at a private game lodge situated in the Tuli Game Reserve. Known for its large elephant herds and the iconic baobab trees dotting the landscape. Hence, offering some of the best nature photography opportunities on the continent! Secondly, from Botswana baobabs you will head off to Zimbabwe’s boulders. In fact you spend 3 nights at a luxury family-run lodge. Nestled in the ancient Matobo Hills in the Southern Bulawayo region, forming the granite hills over 2 billion years ago. Home to a wide diversity of plant and animal life, with 175 bird and 88 mammal species. Including the world’s largest population of leopard. However, the biodiversity of the area is not its only drawcard. Secondly, the area is also well-known for its rich history. It is home to the famous San Bushman cave paintings. Furthermore, Cecil John Rhodes tombstone, amongst many other historical sights. However, a beautiful scenery guaranteed during your stay. As well as some exciting game spotting and a bit of cultural education.

Finally, the last stop of your Baobabs and Boulders itinerary takes you to another game lodge, this time in the Hwange National Park. Above all, Hwange is the largest national park in Zimbabwe, with over 1000 mammal and 400 bird species. Moreover, it has some of the largest elephant herds in Africa! Spend your time on morning game drives and guided bush walks. Or some bird watching and perhaps a tour to the local villages for those looking for some cultural education.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Botswana

Arrival at the Limpopo Valley Airfield where a local representative will welcome you and assist you with your road transfer via open safari vehicle to the campsite at Mashatu Lodge. After settling in and enjoying some light refreshments, you will set off for your first game drive through the area, known for its large elephant herds and stunning photographic opportunities. Your game drive will be ended off with sundowners in the bush. Spend the evening dining in the open air boma, whilst sharing stories of the day’s exciting animal sightings.

Days 2-3 - Mashatu Lodge

The next two days will be spent maximising your game-viewing time in unique and adventurous ways. Instead of the traditional morning and afternoon game drives in an open safari vehicle, you can opt for a cycle or horseback ride through the reserve, allowing you to get closer to the animals and see them from an entirely new perspective. You can also experience the reserve from the underground photographic hides – a way to get up close and personal with the animals without them feeling threatened.

Days 4-6 - Amalinda Lodge

Today you will be transferred back to the Limpopo Valley Airfield where you will travel to Amalinda Lodge via Bulawayo Airport. The next 3 days and nights will be spent attending a variety of cultural and historical excursions – take a trip to explore the San Bushman cave paintings, see the tomb where Cecil John Rhodes was buried and visit the railway museum, amongst other cultural and historical tours. You can also take a walk or hike around the reserve and spend a day rhino tracking either on foot or from a vehicle.

Days 7-9 - Khulu Bush Camp

On the seventh day of your trip, the road takes you to Khulu Bush Camp in Hwange National Park. The camp is ideally situated overlooking an ancient riverbed where many animals can be seen coming for a drink throughout the day. Your time here will be spent relaxing at the poolside and enjoying a number of guided game drives and nature walks – allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural environment. You should also take a time to visit the nearby painted dog conservancy.

Day 10 - Return to Bulawayo

Today is the final day of your Boulders & Baobab trip.

Wake up early and enjoy a last morning game drive or bush walk before returning to the camp site for a hearty breakfast.

After breakfast you will be collected and transferred back to Bulawayo Airport, where you will catch an international flight back to London.
