Douar Samra is typical of the traditional stone and rammed-earth dwellings of Berber villagers, constructed in several terraced stone levels. It is located up a steep hill in the middle of the village of thirty or so Berber houses in High Atlas.

Lovingly restored by the French owner using ancient, traditional methods, it consists of 8 pretty individual bedrooms all in one unique guesthouse.

Douar Samra is more deeply integrated in a traditional village than any other hotel in Morocco and it is wonderful to just watch village life going on around you. Whilst not all rooms have electricity it offers all the comforts of hotel-style rooms and makes a great trekking base or just somewhere to soak up the atmosphere.

The location is a couple of miles from the village of Imlil at an altitude of 1920 metres and is within easy reach of the main Atlas peaks. The concept allows travellers a little taste of Berber life, all in adequate comfort, especially after a hard day's trekking. Berber Cuisine, a soothing Beldi 'Hammam' and local guides who speak French, English, Italian, Spanish, German, & Arabic are all at your disposal.

Morocco's first tree-house suite is the newest addition to Douar Samra. A house on stilts, the room has magnificent views from the private terrace and the all-round balcony. Inside, the spacious all-wooden room has a large king-size bed, which can be split into two singles. A cot can be supplied for children up to ten years of age. The design of the room has a modern, pared-down, Scandinavian feel, with a beautiful mirrored in-view shower, separate toilet, and for the chilly winter visits, there is a magnificent wood-burning stove.
