Handcrafted villas with handsome touches in a secluded bay.

Tucked away into a terraced hillside, the villas of Bunga Raya Island Resort and Spa offer a luxurious island escape a short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu.

All villas have private balconies, many looking out to the South China Sea. Local textiles are used for subtle decoration and decadent touches such as BOSE music systems and Egyptian cotton sheets are present in every villa. As the villas are spread out along a hillside, some are quite far from the beach and amenities of the main building. For those who don't wish to walk, staff provide buggy service at any hour upon request.

Superior Villas are quite spacious and comfortable for two adults. Deluxe Villas are comprised of two buildings: a main unit similar to a Superior Villa, and a smaller unit housing a lounge room with television and surround sound. Extra beds can be added making this a good choice for small families. For those seeking a bit more privacy, we recommend the Plunge Pool Villas. These have sun loungers and a sea-facing balcony beside a private plunge pool. There are two Treehouse Villas tucked away in the jungle, one with a plunge pool and the other an outdoor Jacuzzi tub. For families with older children, we suggest a Two Bedroom Deluxe Suite with its large shared balcony. One luxurious Three Bedroom Deluxe Suite sits atop the hill. This private villa has a wrap-around deck and plunge pool.

For those wanting the ultimate private escape, the Royal Villa is a two-bedroom villa set apart from the resort. It's equipped with a full kitchen, living and dining areas, and an outdoor grill. An infinity pool and a private beach are also part of the rental as is a designated butler and chef.

Solace Spa is built into the jungle so well that one of the outdoor showers incorporates a large boulder. The treatment buildings are luxuriously appointed and a full range of services is available. Pantai Grill & Bar serves fresh seafood and international cuisine along the beach while the Longhouse provides contemporary cuisine and is home to one of the largest wine selections in the region.

Snorkeling and kayaking are both available just off the beach. Guided jungle walks can be arranged as well as walks to a zipline. Diving can be organized through nearby Gayana Marine Resort, Bunga Raya's sister property.

Take the ferry over to Gayana Marine Resort and visit the Marine Ecology Research Centre to learn about the work they're doing on marine life preservation or snorkel in the protected bay and look for all the giant clams the team have helped to breed.
