In a city where the hotels are big, brash and corporate, the Hotel Majestic is a breath of fresh air. Yes, it is still big - taking up a huge, prime spot of land on the riverfront, but wow - it oozes character. As one of five Government run hotels in the city, there has been little in the way of refurbishments and upgrades over the past 90 years - but for once, this is a blessing.
From its wonderful, original art deco lift to the sweeping staircase through the hotel, it remains a wonderful temple to French colonialism. Admittedly, it does has a slight sense of faded grandeur and the decor is a little dated so if you're seeking top notch luxury then this might not be the hotel for you, but if you want something with a bit more identity and soul than the countless hotel chains in the city then look no further.
The resort has a fabulous rooftop bar which overlooks the river and is one of the nicest spots in the city for a sunset cocktail or two. Its second rooftop bar and restaurant is where breakfast is served - so you are guaranteed fabulous views to start and round off each day in the city.
There are several restaurants, cafes and bars in the hotel that serve a great mix of authentic Asian food as well as classic western favourites. Centrally located, there are plenty of eating and drinking options around the hotel.
The 175 rooms all have a similar grand, colonial decor. The cheaper Colonial Rooms are a little smaller than some of the others and do not have great views, but are located at the back of the hotel and are quieter so ideal for lighter sleepers (although they are a little gloomy). The Colonial Pool Deluxe are a little bigger and overlook the pool with French doors and small Juliet balconies. However, in our opinion the best rooms of the hotel are the Saigon River Deluxe which are extremely spacious and offer wonderful extensive views over the river. The suites take up the corner plots on the river, offering even greater views and more space with a living area and second bathroom. Light sleepers may prefer the Pool Deluxe rooms as the riverside is noisier.
The hotel has a little outdoor swimming pool in a courtyard where you can cool off after a hot day in the city. There is also a fitness centre and spa on site.
