The decor at Shanghai Mansion is opulent, with silk upholstery and bedding, ornamental blossom trees inside the rooms, antique Chinese four-poster beds, birds cages in bathrooms and red and lilac painted walls. It's kind of romantic and yet wonderfully kitsch at the same time! With historic significance as one of the first nine-story buildings of the Chinatown Community, this building was one of the district's early important architectural landmarks.

The Rooms
All 51 Superior Rooms, 9 Deluxe Rooms and 16 Suites are fully air-conditioned and fully equipped with satellite TV channels, complimentary wireless internet access, a fridge, mini-bar, tea-making facilities, electronic safety box, hairdryer, IDD telephone and an en-suite bathroom with rain shower.

The Facilities
Other than a small tea room, library and internet corner Shanghai Mansion doesn't have too many other facilities. However it is well located for anything you may need and on the lower floor the Yin Yang Massage Spa features authentic traditional Chinese massage and wonderful spa treatments for a truly healing and relaxing experience.

The reception desk can exchange money, arrange laundry and dry cleaning.

The hotel has three restaurants. The Cotton Restaurant serves a mix of buffet and a la carte breakfast from 6.30am - 10.30am, and is also open for lunch. The Red Rose is a contemporary Chinese restaurant and Jazz lounge and open for dinner. Additionally, the bar called Shanghai Terrace is located at the entrance of the hotel, offering drinks and snacks throughout the day.

The Surroundings
There is a supermarket on the ground floor if you want to buy additional provisions and there are simply dozens of places to eat right outside the front door for lunch and dinner. Options range from local street vendors to upmarket restaurants dripping with over the top gold interiors. A very good Dim Sum restaurant is opposite the hotel and comes well recommended. You will even be able to find a few controversial delicacies such as shark's fin and bird's nest soup Alternatively a cab ride will take you to the new part of the city where the restaurant choice is endless.

Chinatown is one of Bangkok's oldest and most historically fascinating districts. The Shanghai Mansion is on one of the area's busiest roads, famous for its incredible number of gold shops that represent the heart of the Chinese economy within Thailand.

By contrast, around the corner lies Thieves Market. Shrouded in mystery and intrigue from its past, nowadays tourists come hunt out antiques and brick a brac bargains.

The hotel itself is situated on the main road of Bangkok Chinatown which is extremely convenient. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to the Grand Palace, a shoppping centre as well as to the MRT subway station. The nearby underground Hua Lumpong MRT station connects to the BTS sky train network providing quick and easy access to all tourist attractions and shopping destinations that Bangkok has to offer.

The Royal Palace and Wat Po are just 10mins from China Town by car.
