"This was the first hotel we stayed at on a 3 week trip to Sri Lanka. Situated in the cultural triangle the rooms are well appointed. With views over Lake Kandalama and of Lion Rock it can hardly be better placed. The rooms on the first floor make you feel you are living in the treetops. Beautiful pool and good value spa. The food was excellent, both the local menu and the items on the western menu. Service was the highlight. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were all charming. We would thoroughly recommend it." TA

Lake Lodge is located on the edge of the Kandalama tank, on a small hillock. The hotel has twelve spacious rooms with minimalist decor. All rooms are air conditioned and have large private balconies overlooking the garden with panoramic views of the beautiful Dambulla hills. From the upstairs rooms one can see the famous Dambulla Cave Temple and on a clear day the sunset from these balconies is spectacular. The rooms have attached bathrooms with running hot water.

The hotel has a large swimming pool, bar area and restaurant. The outside areas are extremely attractive with views of the lake and many indigenous dry zone trees, all of which were retained during the construction of the hotel. The trees bring many species of birds and the Grey Langur Monkeys who are ever present, but visitors are asked not to feed them.

The hotel is well staffed, with a team who want guests to experience the sort of hospitality extended when one is staying in a Sri Lankan home. The kitchen is capable of producing quality fusion food as well as some succulent local curries. There is no set time for meals and if you desire something not on the menu the team are eager to please. For breakfast the choice is either traditional English, healthy and fruity or Sri Lankan curries with rotti. You may have breakfast in your room, around the pool or even have it packed up for you as you depart on an excursion. Please note that alcohol is not sold at the hotel, but guests are welcome to bring their own and the staff are happy to store and serve it at no additional cost.

Lake Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the Cultural Triangle. This can be done on foot, by bicycle or even in a hot air balloon (seasonal). There are also national parks to visit where you can do an elephant safari or enjoy a elephant ride. As well as the wildlife and ancient wonders Lake Lodge offers the ideal getaway for anyone who wishes to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The hotel has many little corners where one could sit and read or meditate whilst transfixed with a breathtaking view.
