Angsana, Ihuru North Male Atoll - SLM004

Ihuru is best described as a modest island that feels relaxed, intimate and unpretentious with a price tag that is slightly more manageable than some of its extravagant neighbours.

45 Bedrooms, Sleeps 90

Pool - Yes
Restaurant - Yes
45 double beds
45 bathrooms
45 en-suite
Sea Views

Ihuru lacks the design and uniqueness required to be one of the Maldives truly great resorts. It is fairly small and the facilities are limited due to its size. Having said that, if you are looking for a cute, friendly resort where you won't feel obliged to don a Dolce and Gabbana swim suit and your children can run around freely then Ihuru is a good option.

The island is almost a perfect sphere in shape, with the resort's 45 detached villas running evenly around the outside just metres from the sea. The island's operational buildings and staff quarters are then concealed in the very centre of the island.

There are 2 room categories - Beachfront Villa & Deluxe Beachfront Villas. They are all furnished with a thatched roof, private garden with Maldivian swing and a minimalist-influenced interior in vivid lime green, tangerine and yellow. The room facilities include:

Veranda with dining and sitting area
Private garden with sun lounger and Maldivian swing
Outdoor shower with hot and cold fresh water
Air-conditioning (individually adjustable)
Queen-sized bed
Mini-bar and coffee and tea-making facilities
In-villa safe
IDD telephone
Hair dryer and bath robes

The only difference between the beachfront villas and the deluxe beachfront villas is the positioning, with the deluxe beachfront villas being set further forwards towards the sea with open air jet plunge baths. The standard beachfront villas still have views of the sea but they are restricted and narrowed by the presence of the deluxe villas which encroach and almost sit diagonally across the standard villas lower gardens.

The rooms can each sleep 3 adults or 2 adults and one child.

The accommodation at Ihuru can only be booked on a full board basis and is quoted for accordingly.

At the main Riveli Restaurant (which means 'beam of light' in Maldivian), the food offers a blend of Asian, Mediterranean and Maldivian flavours. You have a choice of buffet or a la carte style dining. The restaurant is located in a beautiful spot, with a wooden deck that stretches out over the water and a canopy of palms overhead. This is the only restaurant on the island, although guests can also request private dining on the beach, sand banks or in their room.

For pre and post dinner drinks the 'Velaavani' bar (meaning shallow bay where turtles gather) offers a good selection of delicious cocktails and bar snacks that can be enjoyed while turtle spotting.

Boasting one of the best house reefs in the country, Ihuru is the perfect place for snorkelling and scuba diving. Winner of the first Maldivian Environment Preservation Award in 1996 as well as the "President of the Maldives Green Resort Award" in 2002, Angsana Maldives Ihuru is home to more than a few outstanding marine biology research initiatives. There are few better places to learn about the blue planet.

For the rest of the time why not pamper yourself in the spa, enjoy some active water sports or participate in a Maldivian cookery course, where you can master the subtle favours of a Maldivian fish curry..yum! Windsurfing, canoeing and volleyball are all provided free for charge on Ihuru.

The accommodation on Ihuru can only be booked on a full board basis.
