This luxurious hotel dates back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1910. Dubbed the “Austrian Riviera”, Portoroz was the place to see and be seen for royals, aristocrats, politicians, artists and actors, with this iconic hotel has played a key role. After a period of closure and a complete renovation, the hotel reopened in 2008 with a new modern wing but still manages to combine the Viennese elegance and Art Deco architecture with contemporary design.

Portorz is famous for its spa traditions, in the 13 century the Benedictine monks treated their patients with sea salt and mud therapies. These special treatments are recreated in the Kempinski Rose Spa. Spread over two floors the spa offers luxurious and quality services. It is located in the modern part of the hotel. Interconnected indoor and outdoor swimming pools filled with sea water, Jacuzzis and a sauna area, that features a Finnish herbal sauna, an aromatic steam sauna and an infrared sauna.

The location is well known for its extraordinary cuisine based on local olive oil, wine and truffles. The hotel’s fine dining restaurant “Restaurant Sophia”, named after Sophia Loren, who would frequent the hotel in the 1950s, combines the local cuisine with a fusion of Mediterranean flavours. Breakfast is served in the fabulous refurbished Crystal Hall ballroom, adorned with crystal chandeliers and gilded ornaments on the ceiling from 1910, it is the heart of the Palace Hotel. Other dining options include Restaurant Fleur de Sel, which has stunning views over the Adriatic and the wine cellar for private dining.
