From the months of June through to early December, Hermanus is the home of the Southern Right Whales and nothing gets you a closer view than the boat based whale watching.

Educational and unforgettable experience
Close encounter whale watching
Policy is Observing not disturbing
Daily departures
Whales can be approach up to 50m
Penguins, marine birds, seals can also be seen

The trip is operated in a 42 seater Miroscha catamaran power boat for scenic boat based what watching and sundowner cruises. The boat is allowed to approach the whales up to 50 meters and then has to stop. The decision is then for the whales if they want to come closer and being curious mammals they usually come right up to the boat, offering amazing close up viewing and photo opportunities.

Whilst you can enjoy watching the whales off the coastline nothing parallels to how close you can experience these gentle giants from a proper whale watching boat.

There is a whale specialist on board who will give you more insight to these magnificent gentle giants and answer any questions you may have. During your trip you can also expect to see some birdlife, dolphins if you lucky and even a seal or two - and of course the whales!! The ocean is a lucky packet and you never know what is out there till you take the trip! The trips are daily (weather dependent) with departures at 9am / 12pm / 3pm and is suitable for adults and children. From September in the peak of whale season, there is usually an additional departure at 7am.

Duration very much depends on the activity that day but you can expect to be out for anything from 1½ - 3 hours (average time is about 2 hours).

Cost is approximately £45 per adult and £20 per child. The boat is licensed to carry 70 passengers and 5 crew members and there is a toilet on board.

Please do contact us for more information and booking details. This trip can easily be done even if you not staying in Hermanus - it makes for a great day out from Cape Town and we can even arrange transport with a guide if you want to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
