Accommodation at Fugitives is offered at either the Lodge or Guest House. Both facilities are owned by the Rattray family and located within the Fugitives Drift Game Reserve.

The Lodge is set on a hillside overlooking the Buffalo River Gorge. There are 8 rooms plus an annex cottage with 3 rooms, ideal for families.

The rooms are all spacious with en suite bathrooms each with their own veranda overlooking the valley.

The gardens are well established with shady trees and lovely views. The swimming pool overlooks the valley. Meals are enjoyed inside the large dining room. There is also a large outside log fire where you can enjoy sundowners, with a backdrop of the Isandlwana 'sphinx'.

The guest house offers 6 en suite rooms and was originally an old farmhouse. The terra-cotta cottages have large bedrooms decorated in ethnic simplicity. Each has a private veranda with views over the reserve.

Main areas of the lodge include a charming sitting and dining room as well as an outside eating area. There is also a small swimming pool to cool off on hot days. The guest house offers lovely views across the valley.

Both facilities offer warm hospitality and excellent cuisine.

Daily tours to the battlefields are offered by experienced and passionate guides, who bring to life stories of the Zulu & AngloBoer wars as taught to them by David Rattray.

The Rattray family are pioneers of Heritage Tourism in South Africa and offer an unforgettable experience of a by-gone era. The Buffalo Gorge is a declared Natural Heritage Site and the reserve itself is home to a variety of antelope, zebra, giraffe as well as 275 species of birds. Guests can enjoy walks and horse-riding within the reserve. Your stay at either of the Fugitives Drift Lodges will bring to life stories of a never forgotten era. We do recommend 2 nights minimum to fully be able to experience the Battlefields.

To really experience all of the Battlefields we do recommend to also consider 1 or 2 nights at Three Trees which will compliment your stay at Fugitives Drift Lodge.
