The desert is a magical place. Tranquillity, clear skies, bright stars, simmering vistas, intense colours, big dunes and magical experiences. This can all be enjoyed in comfort at Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp, or at one of our private nomadic camps
Situated in a quiet location, the camp is surrounded by dunes. The camp can be experienced as part of a 7-day package that includes 3 nights in Marrakech, or purchased on a per night basis. We are, however, totally flexible and can tailor-make a package, including any other destination in Morocco, to suit your needs.
And for those that want complete privacy, riding camels and trekking deep in the desert, there are now 3 nomadic sites, each within a days trek of each other. Each camp is totally private with just one luxury sleeping en suite tent and a separate relaxing tent, nestled in the dunes. It's the ultimate desert experience.
The camp still operates during the summer although it is extremely hot and should only be booked by those who can withstand extreme heat (50C plus).
Main Camp
The camp is a mix of traditional Berber design, coupled with modern comfort. It is surrounded by sand dunes and is located adjacent to the highest dunes in Morocco.
In the centre of the camp is the Berber lounge. It's a place to relax and is filled with traditional mattresses and pouffes. Ice-cooled drinks, soft and alcoholic, are always available here. Meals are served outside under the stars, or under cover in a Berber tent. There is also a separate open-sided tent with sun loungers, another with sofa and chairs, and another with hammocks.
There are six tents for sleeping, all en suite. The tents are spacious (over 25 sq m) and luxurious. Each bathroom has its own toilet, dressing room and wash area.
Each tent has a king-size bed (which can be made into 2 singles), with high quality individual sprung mattresses, percale cotton sheets, duck down duvets and choice of synthetic and duck down pillows. There are also 'wall to wall' plush rugs, a full-length mirror, bedside tables and solar-powered lighting, an armchair and ottoman and space to hang your clothes. Each item has been handmade in Morocco.
From your bedroom you walk into your spacious bathroom, in a separate but adjoining tent. The bathroom has a toilet, make up area, washbasin and wash area. Fluffy towels, soaps, argan oil, and other 'goodies' are also provided.
Due to the chronic shortage of water in the desert, instead of a shower two 20-litre silver pewter buckets with hot and cold water are provided. The bucket wash is incredibly invigorating and uses a fraction of water compared to a shower. It is a great way of washing oneself!
