Situated near Sukau on the lower part of the river, Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge offers an opportunity to see Borneo's endemic proboscis monkeys, orangutans, and other animals big and small in their natural habitat.
Featuring dark ironwood (belian), the buildings of Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge nest subtly within the jungle. Guestrooms are simply designed with a small sitting area and a configuration of two or three single beds or one double bed. Four family rooms have one queen and two single beds. All rooms are en-suite with a hot water shower and cooled with fans. Some rooms have outdoor benches or hammocks.
Walkways throughout the lodge lead to a bird tower and frog platform. A riverside sun deck is lined with loungers and chairs, even some in the shade. The air-conditioned library shows nightly videos about the wildlife of Borneo.
A stay includes river cruises along the Kinabatangan and Menanggul Rivers to look for orangutans, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, elephants, and other local wildlife. Many of the guides are longterm residents of the area, known for their excellent spotting skills. Full board is provided with buffet-style meals.
