Anglo-Indian mansion restored to its former glory with rooms, family-sized suites, and two small villas.
The mansion and villas are adorned with a carefully curated collection of textiles, tiles, and furnishings to create the feel of an elegant, welcoming home. Roll top writing desks, Kelim rugs, Kashmir throws, four poster beds, and other treasures can be found in every guestroom. Modern conveniences such as Bluetooth speakers blend seamlessly into the background. Mansion rooms have one king bed and a spacious sitting area with a day bed separated by a coloured glass screen. Mansion suites have a second king bed on a lofted level along with a small bathroom.
Two villas sit apart from the mansion, each with its own entrance through ornate antique doors. A private courtyard has a sitting area and outdoor shower. The ground level comprises a seating and small bathroom, while upstairs has a king bed and larger en-suite. The villas offer incredible privacy and space for a couple or small family and truly feel like updated versions of the homes they once were.
The breakfast buffet is complemented by fresh roti and a variety of local specialties such as nasi lemak purchased each morning. The staff can help with organizing or plating takeaway meals if you wish to eat in the mansion as there is no restaurant on site.
Jawi Peranakan Mansion is located in George Town, approximately 40 minutes drive from Penang International Airport. While a bit further from the most popular heritage sites of town, there are a number of restaurants, shops, and interesting buildings to admire just outside the hotel. The location is a bit quieter than some of the other hotels within the city's heritage zone.
