In a small village near the Tip of Borneo sits Bavanggazo Longhouse. Built to the design of a traditional Rungus longhouse on stilts, a long common area runs the length of the house with simple rooms lining one side.
Accommodation is very basic with bedding, mosquito nets, and a few shelves. Washrooms are located in a separate building and only cold water is available for showering.
Your host families live in a neighboring longhouse and are happy to answer questions about their culture and way of life. In the evening, they'll prepare dinner for you and perform a traditional dance.
In the area are other villages that focus on one particular craft or commodity such as gong-making and honey farming. An overnight stay in the longhouse is a unique way to see how the Rungus people live today and how they have modified past practices to today's society.
