This small guesthouse is a real gem. It has a stunning location in the peaceful village of Tamga, fringing the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, with views over the mountains. If you’re a lover of the outdoors, there are some incredible hikes in the area. Head into the mountains to marvel at tumbling waterfalls and the statue of Soviet Air Force pilot Yuri Gagarin – the first man in space. Your hosts Askar and Tamara can arrange this for you, as well as other local treks and experiences such as horseback rides. Issyk-Kul Lake is also only a five-minute drive away, or take a stroll down the hill and you can be there in just over half an hour on foot.

One of the best things about this guesthouse is the hospitality. Askar and Tamara are both so friendly, and they have some fascinating stories to tell if you want to learn more about local Kyrgyz life. Tamara speaks very good English and is a great cook. Breakfast is served in the dining room and you can return for dinner if you’d like to try some traditional homemade dishes. Many of the ingredients Tamara uses are from the guesthouse’s own orchard, a beautiful place to have a wander or relax in after long days trekking and sightseeing. The 15 rooms are divided into three storeys. They’re simple and comfortable, with Kyrgyz-style décor and private bathrooms.
