Built in 2015 Tau-Shelek Guesthouse is a clean and comfortable place to stay on the edge of Kolsai Lakes National Park – just a 10-minute drive away. This alpine-esque national park is bursting with natural beauty and one of the most spectacular places to visit in Kazakhstan. Hike past lofty spruce trees, forest-clad mountains and navy-blue lakes and the scenery will leave you in total awe.

You could take a relaxing boat ride along the glittering teal waters of Lower Kolsai Lake, fringed by sky-scraping emerald mountains. Or, if you’d rather stay on dry land, a three-hour trek will bring you to Middle Kolsai Lake where you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping alpine views.

Tau-Shelek Guesthouse gives you the chance to experience what local life is like in Kazakhstan. The vibe is cosy, warm and friendly, with a feast of homemade Kazakh cuisine on the menu each day. Try specialities such as kuyrdak, Kazakhstan’s national dish, where stewed meat is cooked in spices and served with fragrant rice pilaf. The guesthouse has its own sauna and each of its 10 rooms has a private bathroom.
