Hoshokaku is a beautiful ryokan situated on a hill that will lead you to Shiroyama Park and the ruins of Takayama Castle. It is centrally located, just a three-minute walk away from the main attractions in town such as the old town and morning markets. The train station is at around 15 minutes by foot or alternatively 10 minutes by taxi as well as a free shuttle bus service from/to the train station.

The ryokan is an authentic Japanese inn – Takayama traditional style –, recently refurbished with a cosy atmosphere and offers an excellent service.

In Hoshokaku there are both Japanese rooms and western-style rooms available. They are all equipped with private bathrooms, toilets and hairdryers. Some of them have their own private outdoor hot spring with very nice and relaxing views over the Takayama mountain range

The Japanese rooms have tatami floors and low furniture in the middle of the room that will be replaced with a futon for sleeping by the ryokan staff after dinner

The western-style rooms offer a traditional elegant Japanese atmosphere but are equipped with western-style beds and sofas. This provides a luxurious western touch, the perfect way to experience a traditional atmosphere in maximum comfort.

The highlight of the ryokan is the delightful common hot spring baths that all guests can enjoy free of charge. Located indoor and outdoor, one is made of granite and the other one is made of cypress wood. There is also an outdoor foot onsen on the upper floor where you can enjoy the wonderful views while you soak your feet in healing waters.

Only delicious Japanese cuisine is available and the menu is rotated regularly to make sure you have a different dinner every day.

* Please note that ryokans are typically very strict regarding dinner time. Guests wanting to have the included dinner at the hotel must arrive and check-in by 18.00. Those arriving later than the designated dinner time may not be served (refunds are not applicable).
