The Wilderness Center is a peaceful and authentic retreat, situated at the gateway to The Highlands in the 'lesser' explored and stunningly beautiful eastern region of the island. All the old buildings have been carefully preserved and renovated so you can choose between a stay in the Landowner's Suite, The Old Farmhouse, Basecamp or perhaps the dorm in the unique old attic room. Beautiful authentic Iceland feasts will be prepared in front you of by your hosts, Denni & Arna and served around the kitchen table.

The Landowners Suite can be booked if you're looking for a little more luxury and an ensuite bathroom but if you want to experience rural living the Old Farmhouse is a lovely option with twin beds that can be linked together. Basecamp is a lovely 'den' where explorers will feel at home.

The location is so beautiful and remote you will really be able to relax and explore the incredible countryside whether by foot, Denni & Arna's Icelandic Horses, on Nordic skis, by super jeep or by kayak along the river. The possibilities for adventure are endless. You can hike the waterfall trail, bathe in the natural 'hotpots' along the way, fish in the river, mountain bike, search for reindeer on horseback, explore the Highlands by super jeep and then return to relax in the bathhouse and the natural hot spring. You can even cross the river by a traditional cableway.

Whether you visit in mid-winter and opt for a Nordic skiing tour, experience the 'Nostalgia of Christmas' or the 'Birth of Spring' there are so many possibilities for exploration and relaxation, you won't want to leave.
