A contemporary hotel, ideally situated with lake views, friendly staff, delicious food and numerous opportunities for adventure and exploration.

Try the beautiful dessert called David’s white chocolate and skyr. It contains a very unusual combination of local ingredients and is probably the best skyr dessert in Iceland!

Great location

Located in the north of Iceland overlooking Lake Myvatn, Hotel Laxa is a lovely contemporary retreat in a desirable location with great access to explore this exciting region of Iceland.

Standard or Lakeview rooms are sleek and modern and make the most of the beautiful views, on all sides, with large windows. The rooms are fully equipped with complimentary Wifi, LCD TV, hairdryer, clothing rack, extra pillows, phone, toiletries, and tea and coffee making facilities. Rooms can also accommodate disabled guests and beds are available in double or twin and with an extra rollaway bed where required.

The Eldey restaurant’s chef has created a menu which focuses on the Myvatn region’s uniqueness, featuring regional ingredients such as Arctic fish from nearby Husavik and beef and lamb from Eyjafjordur. All fruit and vegetables are grown from nearby farms in geothermally heated greenhouses.

Relax at the bar and enjoy a cocktail or Icelandic beer (which is great in my opinion!) whilst looking over Lake Myvatn and Vindbelgja Mountain.

Things to Do:

Soak in the restorative waters of Myvatn nature baths, akin to the Blue Lagoon but much quieter! Visit Dimmuborgir lava fields, Grotagja caves (filming location for Game of Thrones). Hike up Hverfjall crater and marvel at the pseudocraters. The list of things to do in this area of Iceland is endless. You can also partake in any of the following all year round: minigolf, bowling, icefishing, cross country skiing, fat biking or snowmobile riding on frozen Myvatn during wintertime, private superjeep tours to Askja or to see the northern lights, birdwatching or simply visit Mývatn Bird Museum.
