During the light summer nights, go for a late night/midnight walk to Gulfoss waterfall so you can see it in all its splendour and without the crowds! In fact, make sure you hike to Gulfoss at any time of the year. You may be treated to a Northern Lights display during spring, autumn or winter.

Hotel Gulfoss is a family run hotel which is situated only a few minutes drive or a lovely 40 minute walk away from Gulfoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Geysir & Strokkur geysirs are just 10 minutes away by car. We recommend going nice and early one morning to avoid the crowds, during the peak periods. Easily accessible yet far enough away from towns to avoid light pollution, this is a great hotel from which to view the Northern Lights, if you're lucky!

Hotel Gulfoss is family-owned and run so you can be sure of a friendly, hospitable atmosphere. The interior and furnishings are are contemporary Nordic in style.

The Standard and Superior rooms all have reasonably large bathrooms with showers and each room can cater for a third person. All rooms have either a double or twin beds and feature a flat-screen tv, refrigerator, drinks making facilities and wi-fi access.

The lounge and bar offer a nice place to relax after a day exploring and the restaurant offers traditional Icelandic food with a focus on fish and lamb with vegetarian/vegan options.

Places of Interest & Excursions There is a large forest, Haukadalsskógur, nearby which is a lovely place to go for a walk and a rare sight in Iceland. You can also raft or kayak down the river, go for hikes in this beautiful area, visit a glacier cave and go for a beautiful horse treks amidst beautiful scenery.

Fludir geothermal area and hence, The Secret Lagoon, one of oldest swimming pools in Iceland, is only 30 min drive away from Gulfoss. Thingvellir National Park, home to a rift valley that marks the crest of The Mid Atlantic Ridge and where the oldest democratic parliament in the world , The Althing, first convened in 930AD. Silfra is located in Thingvellir, where you can snorkel between tectonic plates.
