Plaza Marchi is a boutique heritage hotel with a rich history. The historic building sits atop of the foundation walls of Emperor Diocletian’s palace, which can be seen within the hotel. Formerly owned by the highly-respected Marchi family, used as a shelter for children and later donated to the city of Split.

Along with a rich history and central location, Plaza Marchi has a unique interior of colour-washed beams, exposed stone walls, chandeliers, murals, and grand furnishings. Resulting in an Italian-inspired decadent feel. All of the rooms are spacious and offer views across the square or over the city.

The hotel is found tucked away just behind the Riva, Split’s waterfront promenade, in one of the old town’s prominent squares. In front, you’ll find La Bodega, a lovely terraced tavern, perfect for a morning coffee.

One of the hotel’s key features is the small rooftop terrace, with panoramic views over Split’s old town. Perfect for a pre-dinner glass of bubbly in the balmy summer evenings. The views extend past the city to the nearby mountains and across to the Adriatic.

Guests are offered the choice of an a-la-carte breakfast at Zinfandels restaurant, situated just a few meters away or a buffet breakfast in the hotel’s sister property Heritage Palace Varos. We saw this as a lovely opportunity to explore some other locations in Split.
