Two luxury tents have been set upon the grounds of the remote Bantteay Chhmar temple complex, which is an exquisite example of 12th century Khmer craftsmanship and is one of the most important and least understood archaeological complexes from the Angkor Wat period.

It provides a completely unique experience - a three-hour drive away from the hustle and bustle of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Banteay Chhmar offers a remote and peaceful temple experience, close to the border with Thailand. It is currently undergoing much needed restoration work, and it was unfortunately the victim of severe looting during 30 years of civil war.

Today, in an era of peace, the ruins are being reclaimed from the forest and undergoing restoration by the GlobalHeritage Fund and Heritage Watch.

The tents are more “glamping” than “camping”. Made of high quality waterproof Gore-tex material, the tents are kitted out with proper furniture including beds with comfortable linen sheets, mosquito protection and a private bathroom. There are just two tents on the site and each one can sleep two people in comfort.

For meals, the cooks on site use fresh ingredients, making the most of the plentiful tasty local products. The community is responsible for the operation of the tents - local villagers are trained as guides, cooks and security guards and are charged with taking care of the tents. It is a scheme we are really proud to support at Fleewinter.
