Jiwa Java (formerly Java Banana Bromo) is a small modern hotel on the volcanic slopes of East Java, offering dramatic views over the hills below, a great place to relax after a sunrise climb of Mount Bromo. There are not many hotels in this beautiful region of Indonesia and Jiwa Java is one of the best. Set up to provide accommodation for all types of clients, it has a mountain/trekking atmosphere with creature comforts too.

Situated in a small village called Wonotoro at around 2000m altitude there is a significant temperature difference and thinner air than at sea level in Java, expect temperatures of around 14-18 degrees and a breeze which can often bring in the clouds. The village is easily explored on foot, and is a must see if you want to experience how rural mountain dwellers live, with an amazing vista and different farming techniques.

The rooms are built from wooden natural materials in blocks of 8 or so, which blend in with the hilly landscape. They are very well maintained, with comfy beds and pleasant soft furnishings. The bathrooms are functional but small and the balcony is the highlight of the room, giving light and stunning views across the Bromo valley.

The gallery and café will give you an insight into local art and photography and are the best places to access Wifi. There is one restaurant serving all meals on an a la carte basis and a small shop where you can buy items you may need for your adventure to Bromo.

Although Jiwa Java does not have 5 star facilities, the location and charm will be good enough for most.
