Exploring Zanzibar

Things To Do

Zanzibar is one of those perfect island escapes where you can do as much or as little as you want to.  If all you want to do is lie on a sandy beach, soaking up the sun and sipping cocktails, then you have found the perfect place!  However there is so much to do on this little spice island that it would be a shame to miss out on at least a few of these great island experiences.  We have included below the most popular things to do whilst on holiday in Zanzibar, although you will see once you get there that there is just so much else that one can do making this a perfect beach destination to suite all levels of activeness.

Snorkelling: The surrounding reefs off the island is home to an eye-watering variety of tropical fish and you can easily go out with a Dhow and enjoy a morning or afternoon snorkelling the coral reefs being entertained by the eccentric sea life.

Safari Blue: Be taken by boat to do more snorkelling off the islands surrounding Zanzibar followed by the most decadent seafood barbeque on one of the remote islands.

Spice Tours: Enjoy a morning or afternoon tour visiting the spice farms.  Over the years Zanzibar has become a world leader in the export of cloves as well as other spices and this tour allows the opportunity to see and learn about fascinating spice plants – ever heard of the lipstick tree?  Well you may just be replacing your own lipstick for the plant version….

Stone Town: This buzzing town is a must visit – even just for a day if we cannot convince you to spend a night here.  Stroll the markets where locals sell their fruits, meat and talented artists show case impressive carvings and art work.  The town is seeped in history and is a World Hertitage site combing African and Arabic influences in this authentic Swahili town.

Swim With Dolphins:  This unique opportunity to track and swim with dolphins is a magical experience! Dolphins overnight in Menai Bay and each morning you can swim with a local pod of dolphins.

Kite Surfing: There is no better place to kite surf than Zanzibar!  From beginners to experienced, many of the resorts offer this adrenaline water sport as an activity, and if your resort doesn’t – there is sure to be a place nearby where you can take to the waves – literally!

Dhow Cruise: What better way to end the day than with a tranquil cruise on a traditional African Dhow?  Gently moving through the surf, you can relax and enjoy the gorgeous sunset whilst sipping a cocktail and soaking the last few rays of sunshine.

So as you can see there is a lot more to Zanzibar than just lying on the beach….
