This itinerary includes a combination of a Selous safari & Zanzibar holiday in a quick 10 days – ideal for those wanting to get out and soak up some sun whilst enjoying a safari at the same time. The safari holiday starts with 3 nights in the Selous Game Reserve, an easy 45-minute flight via light aircraft from Dar es Salaam. The reserve is one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Africa and has been named a World Heritage Site. It is also home to the largest African Elephant concentration, as well as black rhino, hippos, lions, Cape buffalos, Masai giraffes, Plains zebra, crocodile and the East African wild dogs.

Your stay in the Selous Game Reserve is followed by 2 nights in Stone Town. There is where the beach part of your Selous Safari & Zanzibar trip begings. Stone Town is the old part of the capital city of Zanzibar and formed part of the 19th Century spice and slave trade routes! The town gets its name from the coral stone which was used to build most of its infrastructure – this, and its unique 19th Century Arab/Persian/Indian/European architecture make it a beautiful and interesting place to explore. So much so that in 2000, Stone Town was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Your Selous Safari & Zanzibar holiday ends off with a wonderful 4-night stay on Pongwe Beach. This part of your holiday offers the ultimate in relaxation and tranquillity. Spend your days on the white sandy beaches, soaking up the sun and enjoying a variety of exciting water activities. The island is known for is snorkelling and diving, while those looking for a bit more adventure are welcome to try some water-skiing, kite or windsurfing! Alternatively you can just sit back on your private deck, sipping on a cocktail or two, whilst looking over the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

Your Itinerary

Days 1-3 - Selous Game Reserve

Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam you will be met by a local representative who will guide you to the meeting point for your short flight to the Selous Game Reserve. You will spend the next nights staying at the Selous Serena Camp, enjoying a variety of exciting game activities from safari drives and bush walks to fishing and bird watching. Your stay here is inclusive of all meals and some house drinks.

Days 4-5 - Zanzibar & Stone Town

Day 4 of your trip takes you to Zanzibar. A friendly representative will meet you and assist you with your transfer to the Zanzibar Serena Inn, where you will spend the next nights on a B&B basis. Spend a day exploring the historic Stone Town City and Spice Route Tour, before heading off on the next leg of your journey.

Days 6-9 - Pongwe Beach

Today sees you being transferred to Pongwe Beach Hotel where you will spend the next nights in a beachfront room on a half-board basis. The hotel is located in a secluded bay on Zanzibar’s east coast, where you can spend your time doing as little or as much as you like – from relaxing on your private deck or by the infinity pool in the beach gardens, to a variety of water activities such as snorkelling and diving in the natural coral reef, or water-skiing in the crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters.

Day 10 - Departure from Zanzibar

Today is the last day of your Selous & Zanzibar trip. Have a last breakfast and check out of the hotel by 10:00 am, before setting off for a last day on the beaches. You will be met at the hotel and transferred to Zanzibar airport where you will catch a flight to Dar es Salaam, before catching a connecting flight back home.
