There is a reason why Zanzibar is often called the pearl of the Indian Ocean. For this reason we too can only rave about this little paradise. In addition to its beautiful kilometre-long beaches, the beautiful island archipelago off the coast of Tanzania also impresses with its tropical climate. Hence, promises of warm to hot days all year round. Zanzibar and the island of Pemba forms the main islands of the archipelago. Due to its geographical proximity to the equator it offers a tropical climate. Nevertheless, temperatures of over 25 degrees Celsius are all year round. However, a few nights can fall below the 20 degree mark. Undoubtedly, its crystal-clear water of the Indian Ocean is balanced perfectly. All in all it changes between 26-29 degrees Celsius depending on the season. Hence, it invites you to relax in the water for longer. In addition to consistently warm temperatures all year round the islands are characterised by two rainy seasons. In other words, the small and the big rainy season.
Best time to travel
Zanzibar is a tropical island and an all year round destination, however the rainy season is generally from April to May. The tropical climate means that it never gets freezing cold here, but the cooler months from May through to September you may want to have a sweater or jersey, especially for the evenings as it can get a bit chilly – especially on that sunburn!
Between January and February, Zanzibar is the place to be for sunbathing. Imagine sitting in the shallow, crystal-clear water with the sun shining on your belly… While the temperatures back home are close to freezing – sounds like paradise, doesn’t it?
It doesn’t work out with a holiday in the warm at the beginning of the year? That’s no problem either!
The best time to travel to the island group is also from June to August. During this period, you can expect average temperatures of 29 degrees. The humidity is low and only little rainfall. The days are perfect for sunbathing, diving or kite surfing. If you prefer a more cultural experience and want to explore the islan? It’s not too hot for that either, thanks to the constant breeze on the island. By the way, you can even sleep without air conditioning at night. As it is not cold, but pleasantly cool. A paradise in the truest sense.
Another key point is that the busiest months of travel to Zanzibar are from mid-June through to September. As a result that is also a peak time to enjoy safari.
