There are 6 double story eco bungalows and 1 single story bungalow. All are en suite and lit by solar power at night. Each of the double bungalows has a bedroom on the top floor and downstairs is a bathroom, lounge/living area and a large hammock to laze away the day. The solar-heated shower uses rain water and the toilet has a clever long-drop composting design.
The bungalows are private and offer a sense of space with sea views and a quick stroll to the warm Indian Ocean. Finishes all have a local African touch to them.
Meals are simple and enjoyed at the main visitors centre which overlooks the sea between Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. Local chefs provide a selection of Zanzibarian, Arabic, Indian and African tastes.
The local team will look after you and we encourage you to take part in the local activities from the eco forest walks that show the fauna and flora, guided snorkelling on the reef or just laze in the hammock. This is a unique coral reef and due to its sensitivity only snorkelling is allowed.
Chumbe Island is a true eco lodge and being in the Chumbe Island Coral Park Project the lodge has embraced state of the art eco-architecture and eco-technology. This is a beach resort with a difference and you will have a fantastic experience, taking a step back in time to a more simple way of living in a beautiful beach destination.
There are no televisions or phones and this allows you to really relax in nature on a beautiful beach - away from modern pressures & noise! Your stay is inclusive of all meals, soft drinks, snacks, park fees and activities on the island. Only alcoholic drinks are extra. The local guides will share the treasures of this unique eco destination with you. This award winning eco lodge is a unique experience and unlike any hotel or resort - its nothing like that! Run by a team of locals who are passionate about the island and eco projects you can enjoy raw barefoot, Robinson Crusoe at its best!
We recommend including a night or two here in addition to a couple of nights on mainland Zanzibar island. This will give you a great experience of the busier main island as well as a pure eco retreat. Access to the island is by boat from Zanzibar, Stone Town.
