There are only 10 beach bandas (chalets) that overlook the ocean and are tucked into a tropical forest and fringed by a white coral sandy beach. The bandas are en suite with a covered walk way leading to the bathroom with a huge glass-beaded shower curtain. There are intricate local carvings and wooden finishes created by skilled local artisans. Built-in barazas (decks) on the veranda are perfect to relax the afternoon away.

The main lodge area has a thatched dining and sitting area with a bar and all offer open views of the beach and vistas of Zanzibar in the distance. Enjoy daily fresh fruits, fish, lobsters, crabs and prawns. Lunch is often served on large wooden carved Zanzibari platters with a delicious mezze. Enjoy romantic candlelit dinners on the beach or private beach picnics - popular for newly weds!

There are also private beach salas with traditional Zanzibari loungers, ideal to laze away the day with a good book, or just to enjoy the tranquil beach surroundings. You can do as much or as little as you feel like doing.

&Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge overlooks the Mnemba Atoll - a marine conservation area; and a scuba divers delight and you can enjoy snorkelling, swimming and kayaking. You can also enjoy windsurfing, diving (PADI Dive School), dhow cruises, bird watching, water sports and deep sea fishing. Or? just relax on the beach and do as little as possible!

&Beyond Mnemba Island is a private island with a variety of protected marine life and you can easily access the snorkelling/diving areas by boat. Indulge in long beach walks, great swimming and dolphins, whales and other larger marine life is often spotted along with the rare coconut crab. The island is also a breeding project for the rare and shy Suni antelope as well as the Ader's duiker. The island is also a breeding site for the turtles (seasonal).

Access to the island is easy - you would fly into Zanzibar then take approximately a 90 minute drive through lush spice plantations. If you are already on Zanzibar island then you would take a road transfer from Stone Town to the meeting launch site (also approx. 90 minutes). You will then wade through knee-deep warm water to a boat for a 20 minute crossing to the island - a real Robinson Crusoe breakaway! There are no jetties so you land directly on the beach!

&Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge is ideal as a breakaway on its own or to include after a safari circuit in either Tanzania or Kenya. Alternatively we can recommend a combination of a few nights on the main Zanzibar island to see the sights, do some shopping and to enjoy the contrast of these two very different experiences.
