The only real 'luxury' option in Sapa, the Victoria wins points for its style, service and location. Set on a hill in private gardens, the hotel is perched on a hill, surrounded by private gardens but is still an 'in town' option.

Part of a small French-run 4-star chain in Vietnam, the Victoria's Alpine style chalet would not look out of place in Switzerland - from its pretty varnished wood interiors and stone fireplaces to cheese fondues for dinner. It's the perfect base to explore some of the area's unique villages and markets, with excellent trekking opportunities.

The rooms are set around a delightful landscaped garden and are a continuation of the chalet-like-feeling with wooden floors and panelling, fans and rattan chairs, beautifully contrasted by the ethnic d?cor of bright embroidered hemp wall hangings and bedspreads. All rooms have a sitting area with sofa and writing desk, and radiators (this is the one of the few places in Vietnam that gets quite chilly due to its altitude). Beds are firm, with soft pillows.

There are four different types of rooms available. The Superior Garden Rooms are on the garden level with a terrace, while the Deluxe Garden Rooms are above with a balcony. The Family Garden View Studios are more spacious with queensize and three single beds and large balcony - ideal for families of four or five. The Garden View Suite is just as big but features a kingsize four-poster bed draped with mosquito nets, a large living room and a balcony.

The resort has a cosy bar and restaurant, the latter of which has a great menu featuring international dishes with a French and Vietnamese flair. The restaurant has a large central fireplace and a cozy atmosphere in the cooler months but when it is warmer you can dine on the terrace and enjoy spectacular views over Mount Fansipan.

There is a great spa on site and a lovely indoor swimming pool as well as a wide range of recreation activities including mountain biking, a billiards and games room, tennis court, volleyball and a kids club for children over the age of two.
