"Very clean, good, precise service. Good location." - Anne B, Aug 2016.

This small boutique hotel in the centre of Hanoi gets top marks for its 13 unique rooms which offer great value for money. Typical of many Hanoi hotels, which are tall and narrow, the Meracus 2 has surprisingly bright and airy rooms that are completed with teak wooden furniture and handsome en suites.

The hotel has a small breakfast room at the back of the ground floor where delicious made-to-order breakfasts are served every morning. We love the attention to detail here, including the coffee cups that sit on tea-light candles - guaranteed to keep your coffee piping hot throughout breakfast.

There are four different rooms including superior, deluxe, family suite and junior suite. Hanoi is one of the few places where we really recommend customers choose the top-end rooms because the cheaper rooms often have no windows or just an internal window. The Meracus 2 is no exception, and we recommend guests opt for the deluxe or suite rooms.

All rooms are fitted with laptops, free wi-fi, air conditioning, en-suites and flat screen TVs.

The deluxe rooms have external windows and are located at the back of the hotel, so ideal for light sleepers as this hotel is on a very busy road in the Old Quarter, where local politicians deliver the news over speakers in the street every morning and late afternoon.

However, the suites are absolutely stunning and probably our favourite in this price range. Located at the front of the hotel, guests should still expect to hear street noise when the windows are shut, but these suites are spacious, light and airy.

The four family suites have a double bed and single bed as well as a wide balcony with seasonal flowers where you can watch the sounds and sights of Hanoi's evocative street life below. They have a sitting area which is separated by a dark wooden shutter.

The junior suites are the most handsome of the hotel with one King sized bed and a large floor space. These suites sit on the top floors with huge windows or a balcony, depending on the uniquely designed suite.

The Old Quarter is about one hour's drive from the airport.
