Hotel Malika Bukhara is a boutique hotel in the heart of ancient Bukhara close to the Lyabi-Khauz, a national heritage site overlooking a beautiful pond. This complex used to be where noble people gathered to escape the summer heat; and you’ll often be able to see the grand, patterned facade of Nadir Divan-begi Madrasah reflecting in the water.
The entrance to the hotel is adorned with copper jugs, carpets and dolls; and inside you’ll find walls decorated with frescoes and colour. The hotel has 37 guest rooms, each with air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, a safe, TV and minibar. The staff here can speak a few languages, including English, and are happy to book you a table in the restaurant or pour you a mint tea in the Summer tea house in the courtyard. It’s also a great chance to try the Oriental candies.
After a day discovering Kalyan minaret’s incredible grooved patterns and the imposing fortress of Ark of Bukhara – both within 200 metres of the hotel – you can head back and take full advantage of the spa centre’s Turkish sauna.
