The traditional Hotel Grand Samarkand Superior A is around 2.5 miles from Samarkand city centre but only 15 minutes’ walk from St Aleksyi Orthodox Church and a short walk from the International Museum of Peace and Solidarity, too. The hotel spans two quiet buildings, located across the road from one another, with restaurants, cafes and bars around 150 metres away.

The hotel has 30 rooms and apartments with a traditional design, brick walls and colourful local art that brightens the neutral colour palette. Each room has satellite TV, coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom and a seating area – and apartments have Italian-style design and a king size bed. Some of the rooms have a view over the city and some face the beautiful tiled inner courtyard, a calm space with a pond, big green plants, blue and white tiled walls and stunning balconies overlooking the seating area below. Newlyweds often come to take a few pictures here, giving you a real flavour of the local culture.

The hotel has its own roof-top pool for sunny afternoons and, in the evening, you can enjoy a drink at the bar while listening to live piano music. The hotel also has its own restaurant, offering both international and Uzbek cuisine, plus an ‘ayvan’ terrace where you can try hot patyr, the national Uzbek bread, along with a cup of hot tea.
