The Fethiye region has to be one of the most scenic areas to visit in Turkey. Verdant valleys, dramatic mountains covered in sweet-scented pine forests. Ancient tombs carved into the rock faces and simply magnificent beaches. The most famous is the blue lagoon at Ölüdeniz with its sweeping bay and crystal clear waters. Neighbouring Butterfly Valley is also worth visiting, aptly named due to the diverse species of butterflies that call it home.
Fethiye, once a fishing town, is now a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a pretty marina and an abundance of shops and restaurants to sample. Göcek is also a popular choice, smaller than Fethiye, it is a chic, harbour town that is surrounded by 12 islands, stunning to view from land, and even more spectacular to explore onboard a traditional gulet.
For history and nature lovers, this region ticks all the boxes! There are many ancient sites including the temples of Tlos Letoon, and the derelict old Greek houses in Kaya Valley. Spring is a wonderful time to visit; with its unique flora and fauna, it is simply bursting with rare wild flowers.
