For a real taste of unspoilt Turkey, head for a holiday to the gorgeous peninsulas of Datça and Bozburun. Picture mountain hamlets, pine forests, fishing villages and secluded coves waiting to be revealed.
The southernmost of the two peninsulas is Bozburun, where the main village is renowned for building traditional gulets, splendid wooden Turkish yachts that are seen along the whole coastline. Explore the many beautiful beaches and coves, some of which can only be accessed on foot or by boat. Discover charming villages including smart Selimiye with its promenade of seafood restaurants, to the lesser-known places such as sleepy Söğüt.
Inland is just as spectacular, enjoy the fresh mountain air with its sweet scents of pine, lavender and thyme. Part of the famous Carian Trail, discover the tiny hamlets and enjoy gentle hikes through the mountains. You’ll be rewarded with sensational views over beautiful countryside and azure coastline towards the Greek islands of Simi and Rhodes.
The Datça Peninsula is home to ancient Knidos which lies at its tip, where the remains of this Dorian port city overlook two stunning bays. The modern town of Datça has a wide selection of waterside restaurants to try, and for an authentic taste of the area, it is well worth visiting Eski Datça, the old town, with its winding cobbled lanes and quaint whitewashed houses and boutiques draped in colourful bougainvillea.
Wherever you choose to stay in this region, you’ll find exceptional food, much of which is organically grown here. You’ll sample some of the finest seafood in Turkey, and buying some locally produced honey and olive oil is a must!
