I was born and grew up overseas, kickstarting my love of travel and exploration. There is nothing I enjoy more than to be immersed in a different country, drinking in the language, culture, foods, smells, sounds – it’s exhilarating!
In my early twenties I left my desk job to become a full-time professional sailor, a career that took me far and wide and certainly met my desire to see more remote parts of the world. I’ve been lucky enough to sail many tens of thousands of nautical miles – for “work.”
My travel choices are very much determined by how well you can move off-piste. When I’m not sailing, I love to motorbike – riding thousands of kilometres through Vietnam was a true highlight. Another ‘pinch-me’ moment was sailing from Thailand to Bali through the historic Java sea, spotting Indonesian outrigger fishing boats and dolphins alike.
For a week or two of travel though, I don’t think it is possible to beat Europe. Right on the doorstep there are more destinations to visit than I could ever think of. My favourite will always be Greece, which is where I met Fleewinter!
A travel dream would be to ride a motorbike from my home in Southampton all the way to New Zealand…
“Wake up at least one morning to watch the first rays of sunlight hit the mast. To sail is to travel anciently. Take a moment to appreciate how your yacht harnesses mother nature. Finally, there’s always time for one last jump in the sea.”
– Theodora, Greek Island Sailing specialist
