Hintok River Camp offers a unique safari experience; it is more like "glamping" than camping.
Hintok River Camp is set on a historic piece of land which was a part of a Japanese military-based camp during World War II. A suspension bridge crosses the river, connecting the camp with Had Ngew temple and village on the other side of the water.
The Tents
The resort has 32 spacious deluxe canvas tents with twin, queen-size and triple beds available with a private bathroom and shower with hot water, adjustable air-conditioning, a private veranda and rustic wooden furniture.
The Facilities
The resort has a semi open-air dining area on a wooden terrace that overlooks the historical River Kwai Noi. There is a professional chef on-site who serves a broad range of dishes, including a renowned buffet styled BBQ dinner, which is set around a campfire. There is a wide selection of drinks available and when the sun sets you can enjoy a performance of Mon, the native minority community living in the border of Thai-Burma.
There are plenty of things to do in the area. Guests can make use of the natural spring pool on the edge of the river, which has freshly running and naturally clean. It is also the closest accommodation to the historical site of Hellfire Pass, where Japanese POWs were forced to work 18 hour days to cut through one of the largest rocks to continue the Death Railway line. Other activities on offer include mountain biking, trekking, canoeing and bamboo rafting as well as visiting Mon tribal villages and watching their cultural performances. Despite, its relaxing setting, Hintok River Camp was also one of the top ten adventure resorts 2009 in Asia Pacific. It is located about 2.5 hours from Bangkok, by car.
