The buildings of Tanjong Jara were inspired by 17th century Malay palaces. All are constructed from local timber and decorated with rich fabrics. Generously sized rooms all have day beds and verandahs. Bumbung Rooms sit on the upper floor of two-story units, some with garden views and others with sea views. Serambi Rooms are located below Bumbung Rooms with Garden View rooms on the ground floor. Sea View Serambi Rooms are on both the ground and first floors.
Semi-detached Anjung Rooms offer a tremendous amount of space along with a private courtyard featuring an outdoor bath. Gorgeous sea views are afforded from the verandah and through the glass doors and windows. Anjung Seafront Rooms feel a bit different with traditional Malay exteriors and modern interior design complemented by full height mirrors and light wood furnishings.
The Resort is home to three dining options. Di Atas Sungei - meaning Above the River in Malay - is open for breakfast and dinner. There is no menu. Authentic Malaysian cuisine is freshly prepared with offerings changing daily. Nelayan, meaning fisherman, is open for lunch, drinks, and dinner. During the afternoon, a variety of Western and Asian cuisine is available. Dinner focuses on sustainably-sourced seafood and fresh ingredients. Teritai Terrace serves grilled items and rice dishes poolside in the afternoon and cocktails in the evening.
The complex of gardens, pools, and therapy centre of Spa Village is a sanctuary from the outside world. Traditional healing methods are an integral part of programs for relaxation, reinvigoration, and stress relief. River cruises, jungle trekking, hill walks, bicycle tours, handicraft classes and more can all be arranged. Snorkeling and diving at nearby Tenggol Island are available March through October. Learn about turtle conservation efforts with Lang Tengah Turtle Watch at the resort's turtle hatchery. If you're lucky, you might see the release of hatchlings.
Tanjong Jara Resort is located on the northeast coast of Malaysia, approximately a 90-minute drive from Terengganu airport. It can also be reached from Kuala Lumpur with a 3.5 hour drive. A few restaurants can be found within a 30-minute walk of the resort.
