The only resort on this private island dense with ancient rainforest, lined with white sand, and surrounded by clear azure water.

On Malaysia's west coast in the Straits of Malacca, protected from the worst of western storms by the island of Sumatra, sits the small island of Pangkor Laut. With only one resort, much of the land remains as it has for millions of years. As much as possible, the resort built around the trees so walls curve around foliage and you'll see a few roofs that allow trees to continue reaching for the sky.

Luxurious villas all have private balconies or verandahs, oversize en-suite bathrooms, and a bright airy feel with rich fabrics and an elegant, contemporary design. Garden Villas are close to the resort's main facilities and some on the ground level are available as connecting rooms. Hill Villas sit amongst the rainforest along the hillside and offer gorgeous views of the sea and gardens. A limited number have connecting balconies. More spacious Beach Villas are close to Royal Bay Beach and feature open-air bathtubs. Garden, Hill, and Beach Villas each have an additional sofa bed. Sea Villas are perched on stilts over the Straits of Malacca offering a romantic retreat with a large balcony over the water. Spa Villas also perch over the sea and have direct access to Spa Village and its lap pool.

The beautiful Suria and Purnama Suites offer a separate bedroom and lounge. Built over the water, these villas offer unparalleled luxury and privacy. The exclusive two-bedroom Pavarotti Suite is nestled high on the hill. It boasts an extensive balcony with breathtaking views of rainforest and sea, a luxurious lounge, and an enormous open-air bathroom. Eight private estates are also available, each with two-to-four bedrooms, separate living and dining areas, and a private pool. For guests in the Estates, a private butler is on call and private chauffeur-driver car is available.

There are six dining options at Pangkor Laut Resort. Feast Village serves breakfast and dinner buffets with a wide variety of international and Asian offerings. Fishermen's Cove and Uncle Lim's Kitchen are open in the evening. The former focuses on fresh seafood and the latter specializes in Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking. Royal Bay Beach Club overlooks the infinity pool and serves a selection of lighter fare throughout the afternoon and cocktails well into the evening. Chapman's Bar sits on the sand so that lunch, light meals, and drinks are only a short walk from your chosen beach chair. Within the Spa Village, Jamu Bar serves healthy salads and drinks with a view of the lap pool and Straits of Malacca.

Jungle walks and morning yoga and tai chi sessions are held daily. Fishing, snorkeling, and island hopping excursions can be arranged aboard a luxury yacht, teakwood Oriental junk, or a comfortable motor boat. Kayaking, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and catamaran sailing can also be enjoyed. Spa Village provides a tranquil oasis that honours traditional healing practices of Malaysia and beyond. A full array of spa treatments and services are available.

Pangkor Laut Resort is located a 15-minute speedboat ride from Marina Island Pangkor. The jetty is approximately two and one-half hours drive south of Penang or three and one-quarter hours north of Kuala Lumpur.
