Walatta House is one of the most striking and unusual villas in Sri Lanka. With exposed brick work and polished cement floors and features it feels more like the setting of an urban Manhattan apartment than a ocean-side retreat. Nevertheless, the stylish, modern design oozes charm and character.

The villa, which has direct beach access, is built into a hill overlooking the ocean in the distance. Taking steps down to the gardens, the villa is almost indistinguishable as it is set down into the hill. Taking further steps down into the villa you are greeted with the three stylish, large bedrooms. Past these, you enter the open plan and open sided sitting and dining area with a large L-shaped sofa and teak dining table. The rectangular pool stretches the width of the house and beside the dining area is a separate den/TV room.

The master bedroom has a King-sized bed, French sliding floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides of the walls and a small terrace over looking the pool. The second room has a Queen-sized bed and French windows on two sides, while the third bedroom has twin beds. All rooms have private outside and indoor bathrooms, air conditioning and over-head fans.

The villa has a lovely caretaker-cum-chef, who will be on hand to tend to all your requirements and prepare you delicious local cuisine around the clock. The staff quarters are in a separate building for maximum privacy.
