"I stayed here mid May for my birthday, it was low season so the resort was not full. This meant that we got extra special service (I am not sure if it would be this attentive if the hotel was booked out!). The staff were so helpful and very friendly. I said hello about 20 times to people after leaving my room and going to the pool. The food was great, cocktails were spot on and the services and amenities were second to none. I used the spa facilities and they were also great. Very clean and professional, pricing was very reasonable. There is a gorgeous lady in the spa called Indika who was marvellous. She decorated the spa room with flower petals saying happy birthday to my as it was my birthday. The hotel decoration offers an harmonious blend of contemporary design fused with traditional Sri Lankan and Dutch architecture. Majestic pillars, high ceilings, polished cement and dark wood flooring are softened with attractive fabrics and clever lighting. Although the hotel is large enough to provide an excellent array of facilities it still retains a sense of intimacy, exclusivity and most importantly the personalised service you would expect from hotel of this standing. Facilities include an Air-conditioned Gym, Business Centre, Boutique, Art Gallery and luxurious Spa.
The Fortress has five exquisite room styles, Fortress, Beach, Ocean, Lofts and Residences. All rooms feature 7'x 7' super king size beds dressed with crisp white linen, plasma screen TVs, Bose DVD players with surround sound system, IDD telephones, security safes, Expresso coffee machine, private bar, air-conditioning and ceiling fans. The spacious rooms have chic interiors using dark woods offset with cool white and cream furnishings with some wonderful futuristic touches. The en-suite bathrooms have rainfall showers and baths.
Fortress Room
There are eleven Fortress rooms with a floor area of 65 sq metres. These rooms lead to a private courtyard or garden balcony. The open plan bathroom is fitted with twin headed shower and bath.
Beach Room
There are twelve Beach rooms with a floor area of 70 sq metres and are located on the ground floor. They feature split-level living area and open plan bathroom with rainfall shower and bath. They have direct access to the swimming pool, gardens and beach.
Ocean Rooms
There are eighteen Ocean rooms. Similar in size to the Beach Rooms and located on the upper floor of The Fortress with views across the garden to the beach. They feature high vaulted ceilings and guests
also have the added bliss of enjoying a jacuzzi bath whilst taking in
the magnificent views.
Ocean Lofts
There are six superb Ocean Loft Rooms with a floor area of 140 sq metres. The split level design creates stunning accommodation. The over-sized living area has an indoor plunge pool with spectacular ocean views. At the end of the room is a wooden staircase which leads to the sumptuous bedroom which has an additional daybed. The en-suite bathroom has bath, wall and rainfall shower.
Fortress Residences
Finally there are two Fortress Residences covering 240 sq metres each.
The ultimate in sensual living spaces, The Fortress Residences are situated on either end of the hotel. They include 24 hour private butler, two bedrooms, separate living area and entertainment area with cinema-screen TV, outdoor dining deck and private infinity pool with magnificent ocean views. Bathrooms are fully fitted with built in TVs.
The hotel has a stunning swimming pool with sunken bathing platforms and LCD spot lights that make the water twinkle by night.
There is an impressive Spa and Ayurvedic Centre along with a Yoga Pavilion and fully equipped Gymnasium.
The hotel offers SCUBA diving - with a PADI certified dive operator. The Fortress will arrange diving trips to the offshore wrecks and reefs.
