A tranquil and relaxing environment, 98 Acres is picture perfect. It is set on a tea plantation that still produces Ceylon tea today and boasts a full view of the holy mountain Little Adam's Peak.

The resort has a range of deluxe and standard rooms. The latter are bright and cheery and offer excellent views of the Ella Gap and Small Adam's Peak with a rustic Sri Lankan decor. They have a veranda or balcony, a Queen sized bed, titanium finished cement flooring and a traditional stone shower with hot and cold water. The deluxe rooms are more spacious with their own private living area as well as a balcony or veranda with equally great views. The rooms have polished timber floors and King sized beds while the bathrooms are finished in rubble stone and include a separate traditional stone shower and oversized bathtub with hot and cold water. All rooms have Wi-fi.

An eco-friendly resort, majority of materials used in the construction have been recycled. Illuk straw has been used to thatch the roofs, giving it a true Sri Lankan identity and elegance and discarded railway sleepers have been used to build the decks, walls and furniture. Battery powered golf buggies are used to transport guests around the resort with zero emissions and minimal sound pollution.

The resort bar and restaurant offers a good selection of food and drink. Bar 98 is a funky, rustic bar,, selling tasty cocktails and fine teas while Restaurant 98 offers superb views and has a variety of authentic dishes that includes Sri Lankan, Continental and Far Eastern delicacies.

The swimming pool only opened in July 2012 with both a baby pool and an adult's pool that is big enough for laps and elegantly constructed with a deck made of old railway sleepers. A fully equipped gym and spa is also set to open in 2012.

There is plenty to do in the area. Guests can learn all about the production of tea by taking a walk in the plantation with an expert, talking to the tea pluckers and visiting the factory floor to see the withering process and subsequent steps involved in making plantation fresh tea leaf. Tasting sessions are also held in the factory and the resort even sells tea cocktails, mocktails and tea infused dishes. There are ample hiking options; Little Adam's Peak is Ella's best known tourist attraction and is just five minutes away from the resort - it is a short half hour climb to the top of the 1141 metre peak. There is also Ella Rock, a more challenging climb that takes about three hours, the Ravana Ella Falls which ranks as one of the widest falls in Sri Lanka and Bambaragama Falls, Sri Lanka's second highest waterfall. There are also a number of biking options including the Namunukula mountain range.

The resort owned Helipad is located five to ten minutes away from 98 Acres Resort and Spa for guests who prefer to fly in. A helicopter pick up and drop off to and from the international airport is available and must be booked in advance. Guests can also book helicopter tours to many well known attractions all over the country.
